TD Bank is one of the largest retail banking institutions in the Northeastern United States, and periodically offers promotions and sign-up bonuses for its deposit accounts.

Account details and annual percentage yields (APYs) are accurate as of December 13th, 2023.

TD Bank Promotions

TD Bank has more bonuses and promotions than most financial institutions — online banks included. So it’s a great place to shop around for bonuses if you’re thinking about switching banks.

But beware: Many of TD’s accounts have underlying fees. If you can’t waive these fees, it may cancel out any bonus you might earn.

TD Beyond Checking: Get a $300 bonus

TD Beyond Checking comes with a $300 welcome bonus for new customers, plus two waived overdraft fees each year. It also earns interest, but you may be able to find higher rates with the best high-yield checking accounts

How to qualify

To qualify for the $300 bonus, you must do two things:

  1. Open a new TD Beyond Checking account.
  2. Make at least $2,500 in qualifying direct deposits within 60 days of account opening.

A “qualifying direct deposit” can be a paycheck from your employer, a tax refund or government benefits and must be at least $250. If you meet these requirements, TD Bank will deposit the $300 bonus into your account within 180 days (six months).

Expiration date

December 31, 2023.

How to waive fees

TD Beyond Checking has a $25 monthly maintenance fee. You can waive it by meeting one of these requirements:

  • At least $5,000 in monthly direct deposits.
  • A $2,500 minimum daily balance.
  • At least $25,000 in combined TD Bank balances.

Before opening an account, ensure you can avoid the monthly fee. Otherwise, you’ll pay $300 a year in monthly fees ($25 per month), which is the equivalent of the bonus amount. There’s also a $3 paper statement fee. You can avoid this fee by getting paperless statements.

TD Convenience Checking℠: Get a $200 bonus

TD’s Convenience Checking account doesn’t have quite as many perks as TD Beyond Checking. But in exchange, it has a lower monthly fee and easier bonus requirements.

How to qualify

To be eligible for this $200 bonus, you need to:

  • Open a new TD Convenience Checking account.
  • Make at least $500 in qualifying direct deposits within 60 days of account opening.

These deposits can be from your paycheck, pension or government benefits like Social Security. The key here is that each deposit must be at least $250 and electronically transferred directly from your employer or the government. Transfers from other bank accounts or person-to-person payments don’t count.

If you meet these conditions, TD Bank will deposit the $200 bonus into your account within 180 days of account opening.

Expiration date

December 31, 2023.

How to waive fees

TD Convenience Checking has a $15 monthly maintenance fee that you can avoid by keeping a $100 minimum daily balance. This fee is automatically waived if you’re between the ages of 17 and 23.

The account also has a $3 paper statement fee that you can avoid by enrolling in paperless statements. If you’re thinking about snagging this bonus, compare the underlying account to the best checking accounts to ensure there’s nothing better out there for you.

TD Savings: Get a $200 bonus

Need a new savings account? TD Bank has a$200 bonus when you open a TD Simple Savings or TD Signature Savings account. If you also open a TD checking account, you can combine offers and earn a total bonus of up to $500.

How to qualify

To snag this $200 bonus, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Open a new TD personal savings account online. This can be either a TD Signature Savings or TD Simple Savings account.
  2. Deposit at least $10,000 in new money within 20 days of opening. ‘New money’ means funds not previously held in any TD Bank checking or savings account.
  3. Maintain a minimum balance of $10,000 for 90 days from the date you first met the deposit requirement.

TD Bank will credit your account with the $200 bonus within 180 days after account opening.

Expiration date

April 30, 2024.

How to waive fees

TD Signature Savings has a $15 monthly fee. You can waive it by maintaining a $10,000 minimum daily balance or by linking your savings account to a TD Beyond Checking account. While this account has some perks, TD Bank’s savings account interest rates aren’t as good as the best high-yield savings accounts.

TD Simple Savings has a $5 monthly fee. For the first 12 months, the fee is waived with a recurring transfer of $25 or more from a linked TD Bank checking account. You can waive this fee permanently by:

  • Maintaining a $300 minimum daily balance.
  • Being younger than 18 or older than 62.
  • Linking your savings account to a TD Beyond Checking account.
  • Linking your savings account to a TD Convenience Checking account (if you’re under 24).

TD Convenience Checking for Students: Get a $100 bonus

The TD Convenience Checking has a special offer just for students who are between 17 and 24. New student customers who open a TD Convenience Checking account can get a $100 bonus.

How to qualify

To earn the $100 bonus, follow these steps:

  1. Open a TD Convenience Checking account online or at a TD Bank Store.
  2. Make 15 qualifying purchases with your TD Visa debit card within 60 days of opening your account. ATM withdrawals don’t count.

If you meet these requirements, TD Bank will deposit the $100 bonus into your TD Convenience Checking℠ for students account within 180 days of account opening.

Expiration date

No expiration date.

How to waive fees

TD Convenience Checking usually has a $15 monthly maintenance fee, but it’s automatically waived if you’re age 17 to 23. After your 24th birthday, the account will start incurring the monthly maintenance fee unless you maintain a $100 minimum daily balance.

TD Personal Checking: Get a $50 refer-a-friend bonus

TD Bank offers a unique opportunity to earn extra money with its refer-a-friend program. If you’re a current TD Bank personal checking account holder, you can earn $50 for each friend you refer to TD Bank, and your friend earns $50, too. You can refer up to 10 friends each year, potentially earning up to $500.

How to qualify

To take advantage of this $50 bonus, you need to:

  1. Download the referral form from TD Bank’s website, fill out the “Referred by” fields and give it to your friend.
  2. Have your friend open a personal checking account with the referral form at a nearby TD Bank store.
  3. Within 60 days of account opening, your friend must either receive a qualifying direct deposit of at least $250, or make 15 qualifying debit card purchases.

Qualifying direct deposits include paychecks, pensions or government benefits like Social Security. Person-to-person, bank transfers and ATM withdrawals don’t qualify.

If your friend meets these requirements, you’ll receive your referral bonus within 95 days of their account opening.

Expiration date

No expiration date.

How to waive fees

Many TD Bank checking accounts have monthly fees with varying requirements to waive them.

How to open a TD Bank account

Opening a TD Bank account is a breeze. You’ll need some basic info handy like your Social Security number, a valid ID (like a driver’s license or passport) and your current address. If you’re opening a joint account, the second party will need their details too.

Next, choose the account type that fits your lifestyle — savings, checking or maybe both. Then, fill out the application form online, over the phone or in person at a local TD store.

Don’t forget to ask about any opening deposit requirements or fees associated with your chosen account — it’s always smart to know the details. Also, compare how much interest you’ll earn with TD versus similar accounts at other institutions.

For instance, if you’re on the hunt for the best CD rates, it may be worth knowing how TD Bank’s CD rates compare, and whether you can earn more by choosing another bank.
