Spearheaded by the Princess of Wales and supported by The Royal Foundation, the service is a moment to bring people together at Christmas time and recognize those who have gone above and beyond to help others throughout the year.

The Royal Variety Performance takes place every year, either in London or in a theater around the United Kingdom. Prince William turned 39 on June 21, 2021, following a pandemic year that also brought mourning, memories, duty and fun. Days after his birthday on June 28, the Duke of Cambridge met employees during a visit the AG Barr's factory, where the Irn-Bru drink is manufactured, as part of Queen Elizabeth II's traditional trip to Scotland for Holyrood Week.

Earlier in June, the Duke of Cambridge and Duchess Kate of Cambridge spoke to French President Emmanuel Macron and wife Brigitte at a reception hosted by Queen Elizabeth II and senior royals at the Eden Project in Cornwall, England during the Group of Seven summit.

Prince William and Duchess Kate spent a week in Scotland in May, carrying out ceremonial duties, meeting with healthworkers, highlighting their charitable and civic causes, and even returning to the University of St. Andrews where they met and fell in love 20 years ago. And there was fun, like land yachting at West Sands beach in St. Andrews on May 26, 2021.

Will and Kate hosted a drive-in movie event for NHS staff at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh on May 26, 2021, arriving in a Land Rover Defender that previously belonged to his grandfather, the late Prince Philip.

Prince William delivered a blistering condemnation of the BBC on May 20, 2021, for contributing to his mother Princess Diana's "fear, paranoia and isolation" after a "rogue reporter" used deceitful methods to persuade her to sit for a 1995 interview that shocked the royal family and Britain to the core.

Along with other royals, Prince William did his bit to encourage vaccination against the coronavirus, getting his jab in London on May 18, 2021.
